Everybody wants to find the perfect Christmas gift and with Christmas only 5 weeks away, I may be\u00a0a little behind the clock, but better late than never. I have\u00a0seen a few posts on social media suggesting\u00a0to shop local this Christmas, but everything stopped short after that. This is a great idea, but where to shop? What does shop local mean?<\/p>\n

I think it’s safe to say that “shop local” aims to support the little guy or girl. The small Mom & Pop shop, the\u00a0Christmas\u00a0craft sales, the quaint little shop selling handmade clothing and jewelry, but should also include local services like artists, music teachers, dance schools, photographers, etc. Many shops offer\u00a0gift cards as well, such as your local bakery or coffee shop.\u00a0I would also like to extend local, to imply Canadian small business with an online presence or the means to support local Ottawa shoppers. I am dedicating the following page to promoting the shop local movement. I will update this page continually, as I find new businesses to add and ask that readers add any businesses to the comments section;\u00a0I will incorporate them into the body of this page. All I ask is that you please provide contact information in the form of a website, Facebook page, Address \/ Phone number and perhaps what goods \/ services they offer.<\/p>\n

I will start the ball rolling with my wife’s favorite shop; Doree’s Habit, located in Almonte, which sells clothing and fashion accessories, most of which are made by small designers and artisans.<\/p>\n
